PRINCIPLE OF PSA
The nitrogen generator applies molecular sieve separation method for generation of Nitrogen from air. The carbon molecular sieves of this generator come in handy for eliminating oxygen from air. The operation of these sieves depend on differential diffusion rate methodology that considers oxygen molecule to be smaller than the molecule of nitrogen. The nitrogen generator consists of carbon molecular sieves equipped 2-beds. One of this beds is used for producing nitrogen gas by passing compressed air. The other bed is instrumental in transformation of de-pressurization to atmospheric pressure. The entire procedure is referred as PSA or âpressure swing adsorptionâ.Numerous research works have been conducted since the year of 1940 for isolation of pure (99.99% N2 + Ar) nitrogen directly from air. Later, catalytic purification method has been followed for the filtration of nitrogen.
